Miscellaneous Pictures – From: Mike Swaldo

If you can identify these people, please comment on this post and I will
add the names to them.

L-R: Front- Dean Haney, Jack Davis (ball hat) Jane Cookson, (girl with knit hat) Frank Davis (ball hat) and Bob Haney (tallest boy) Back- Ida Mae Davis, Amelia Davis, Faye Haney and Ester Haney

L-R: Front- Frank and Jack Davis, Middle Row: Ida Davis and Faye Haney, Back Row- Amelia Davis, William Haney and Esther Haney

Both photos were taken in 1938-1939. The photo with 9 people in it was taken at the Haney Home. The photo with 7 people in it was taken at the Davis home and in the background to the right is the home belonging to Russell and Gladys Cookson. Jane Cookson, who is in the photo with the 9 people, is their daughter. That home did burn down some years later. Frank also said there was a small road leading from the the Russell Cookson place, back about a 1/4 of a mile to a log home belonging to Rusell’s father, James Cookson. James was married to Sue, who was the sister of Davis’s Grandfather Frank Hill. There was a home that cannot be seen in the photo with 7 people in it since it was taken in the back of the Davis property. That would be the home that now belongs to Eric Brokaw. It did belong to Lena Gervasi Richardson at that time. The Davis home is no longer standing.

  1. Hi! I talked to Frank Davis again today about the two photos submitted by Mike Swaldo. He said both photos were taken in 1938-1939. 2. Yes, that is Jane Cookson! Frank Davis, who is in both pictures, gave me the identifications after sending the photo to many of his other relatives to make sure they agreed with him. Frank said in one of the photos you can see part of the Cookson home. I am still trying to figure all of that out. But he said the pictures were taken about 1938 or 1939. The one was taken at the Haney Homestead, he told me. The Davis homestead, which was where Frank etc.. grew up, is no longer standing. And I guess the Cookson home burned down at some point? That is what I heard. You probably know more than I do about it. Thanks for your comments! Cindy Krocker Davis

  3. Cindy-is that Jane Cookson in one of the photos then? Wasn’t sure if that one was correct. If so, I have to say what a thrill! Jane Cookson was my aunt and I have only seen a few pictures of her when she was older. She became MRDD at some point in her childhood. I have many good childhood memories of her. Really something to see her as a child. Wonder if at that point she had become MR. Anyway, she would have lived close to the house where the picture was taken-back beyond Hobart’s old house.

  4. Hi, again! I have heard from Frank Davis who is in the Haney family photos! The Davis family lived next door to the Haney’s. The Davis home is no longer standing! Frank has given me all of the identifications to both pictures and they will be posted as soon as possible. This is really great to be finally solving the mystery for Mike Swaldo. Just an FYI.. A couple of the original idents are not correct.. In my father-in-law’s defense, the photo I showed him was printed off the computer and not the best quality! Thanks to Frank for coming through for us! Cindy Krocker Davis

  5. I have learned a couple more things after this was posted. Zeke says he is estimating this photo to be taken about 1940. Also, Esther Haney’s husband, who is not in the photo, would have been Willard “Kelly” Haney, Sr. Ida Mae Davis would have been a next door neighbor to the Haneys.

  6. Hi, everyone. I commented on the main page but here are the idents for one of the photos according to my father-in-law Zeke Davis. This is for the photo with nine people in in.. Zeke says that this is the Haney family who resided on Goshen Valley Rd. across from where Garry and Gloria Lute live now. Zeke noted that there are others in the photo with the Haneys. In the front row, the first boy on the left is Willard Haney and the tallest boy on the right side is William Haney. In the second row the girl on the left is Ida Mae Davis, the second girl is Faye Shidaker (sp?) and then Esther Haney is the adult woman on the right. Please let us know if you can fill in any more blanks! I have not shown the other photo with family members to Zeke yet but obviously many are the same. THANKS! Cindy Krocker Davis

  7. It’s so fun to see pictures of Goshen and the families that resided there. When I think of Goshen it was the happy, carefree days of riding our bikes to friends homes playing ball, and playing on the outdoor equipment at Goshen School. Goshen School and Mrs. Larkin should be models for todays kids……

  8. Yes, those photos are great! Hopefully someone can identify the family. From what I see the one photo shows the current Schaar Lane. In the other picture, the former home of Don “Fuzzy” and Carol Carlisle can be seen along Goshen Valley Rd. Dan and Dana Krocker live in the renovated home now. I’ll bet a lot of us have old photos somewhere that would be interesting to those who get on the website! Let the challenge begin!!! Cindy Krocker Davis
