Goshen Community Picnic

GOSHEN- A patriotic theme was carried throughout the Goshen Community Picnic, held September 9, at the Goshen Community Church of the Nazarene Church social hall. The theme was created after learing that Kyle Bibey, who had recently returned from Afghanistan, would be attending the event with his wife Ashley and their children Lilly and Kyla. Each table was decorated with a flag centerpiece and other red, white and blue decorations dotted the hall.
Marc Davis sang “God Bless the USA”, by Lee Greenwood to open the gathering. A prayer was given by Glenn Carlisle prior to the meal. Rick Maurer later recited an emotional rendition of “A Soldier’s Bible”. All reside in Goshen.
Joe Krocker, of Tuscarawas, gave a brief presentation about the Zeisberger Trail and Parks Group and how its project could benefit the Goshen area in the future. Krocker later received the “Brian Schaar Neighbor of the Year Award” for his creation of the Goshen Website, which highlights the area and features the history and stories of Goshen residents and former residents. The website address is http://goshenohio.wordpress.com.
During the introduction of attendees, Fred Bornhorst, of New Philadelphia, told of his time as a bus driver for the Goshen School in the 1950’s. Rev. Lee Randolph, a longtime pastor at the church, conducted tours of the church’s latest remodelling project for those interested. Following the get-together, many went to the Zeisberger Cemetery to view the recent repairs made to a wall there.
