MILDRED L. RAUSCH died on April 2, 2002. She was born in Goshen on October 8, 1908 to Ida (Smith) and Emmett Howard. Mildred was married to Adrien Rausch who preceeded her in death. Her siblings were Kathryn Howard Krocker, Evelyn Howard Moore, and Donald Howard. Funeral services were performed by Rev. Michael Foran and Rev. Allen Bergmann. She was buried at the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery.
Obituary – Mamie M. Swihart
MAMIE M. SWIHART, 88, passed away on April 1, 1988. Swihart was born in Goshen to the late William and Barbara Johnston Cookson and was a homemaker. Her husband Jack S. died in 1947. She resided in Canton before moving to Goshen, in 1968 to care for her grandchildren following the death of her daughter Betty Krocker. Betty’s husband Louis had passed away from a heart attack approximately 1 year previously. The grandchildren are Nadine Badertscher (now deceased), Dan (Diane) Krocker, of Navarre, Becky (Don) Shrewsberry, of Springfield, Ohio and Helen (Steve) Whiting, of California. She was buried at Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Obituary – Donald “Fuzzy” Eugene Carlisle
DONALD “FUZZY” EUGENE CARLISLE, 81, died on July 9, 2007. He was a longtime resident of Goshen prior to moving to Tuscarawas to reside with his daughter Debbie Arnold, due to illness. Fuzzy was a son of the late Gibson and Grace Kuhn Carlisle and was born September 24, 1925. He retired from Gradall in 1987 after more than 35 years of service. He was commonly referred to as the “Unofficial Mayor of Goshen”. On April 10, 1959, he married Carol L. Harig and they raised three children: Debbie (Paul) Arnold, Linda (Bruce) Garner and Jim Carlisle. Carol passed away on September 1, 2003. The couple loved attending the Goshen Picnic and participating in other community activities. While researching the history of their home on Goshen Valley Rd., Fuzzy and Carol were surprised to learn that the home had been occupied previously by Don’s grandparents Gibson Sr. and Ella Carlisle and their children Leroy, Florence, Elizabeth and Gibson Jr. who was Don’s father.
Obituary – Danny Patrick McWilliams
DANNY PATRICK MCWILLIAMS, age 57, of New Philadelphia, died December 17, 2009 following a sudden illness. He was the son of Junior D. McWilliams and Alfreda (Noss) Brown. Danny was born on April 21, 1952 at Union Hospital. He graduated from Indian Valley North’s class of 1970 and was employed by Timken Roller Bearing Co., at New Philadelphia, for more than 35 years. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors. This included cutting firewood and hosting get-togethers with family and friends around a campfire. Scott McWilliams, who resides in Goshen, was named as a special cousin in Danny’s obituary. Danny enjoyed attending the annual Goshen Picnic and is missed by area residents.
Obituary – Joanne Marie Butler
JOANNE MARIE BUTLER, 77, of Uhrichsville, OH, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012. She was born on February 28, 1934 in Goshen, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Arthur D. and Nora (Page) Garrett. The Garretts resided behind the Universal Sewer Pipe Plant #2 on a lane that included the Kopp and Casebeer families. She was married to Robert D. Butler, who survives. Butler had been a waitress in many of the local restaurants and loved to crochet, sew and fish in her spare time. Butler has a sister Dorothy Dyer (husband Wayne) of Port Washington and three brothers, who preceeded her in death, Kenneth, Donald and Junior Garrett. Butler’s complete obit appeared in the Times Reporter on January 31, 2012.
Lawrence (Larry) and Jo Ann V. Davis Guy
Jo Ann V. Davis and Lawrence L. Guy were married in the Goshen Community Church of the Nazarene, on February 20, 1982. They resided in Uhrichsville for several months before returning to the Goshen Community in September. They lived on Robson Dr. in their mobile home which was later moved to their property on Goshen Valley Rd. They built a split level home in 1995 and continue to reside there. Prior to her marriage, Jo Ann resided with her parents Floyd (Zeke) and Marjorie (Oppy) Davis, on Goshen Valley Rd.
Obituary – John T. White
JOHN T. WHITE, 74, passed away on January 26, 2012. White did not live in Goshen at the time that he purchased all 91 acres of the James A. Oppy Farm from Bernice K. Oppy in the mid 1970’s. Bernice had decided to move to Michigan to reside with her daughter Kathy after the passing of her husband James. John divided the property into various sized lots to be sold. He built homes on a couple of the properties before selling them, including a ranch home on Goshen Valley Rd. One of the homes built by White was an A-Frame on Possum Hollow Rd, which his family resided in for many years. It was stated in the obit that the A-Frame was White’s favorite house. The home was later inhabited by the WTUZ Radio Station. During his years as a self-employed carpenter, White also built many homes on the Southside of New Philadelphia. He proudly served in the Navy. White’s obit was published in the Times Reporter, on January 31, 2012.
Comments on the Arkansas Cake Recipe by Frank Davis
Frank Davis, who now resides in Michigan, comments on the Arkansas Cake Recipe: “Lena (Gervasi Richardson) was my next door neighbor and a very nice person. That cake had to be a good one,” Frank said adding. “I remember Lena as a very good cook.” Lena passed away several years ago. She and Frank resided along Goshen Valley Rd. near the Schaar Ln. intersection.
